Measuring moisture with microwave technology
Moisture is defined as the percentage of water in the total mass of a solid. Other terms are used synonymously – such as humidity, material moisture, absolute moisture, moisture content, gravimetric water content, etc. The moisture data of microwave technology refers to the water content in the dry mass of the fabric. In microwave technology, water molecules located on the surface or in the pores of solids align with electromagnetic fields, drawing energy from the field. A practical example of this effect is the microwave: oscillating water molecules generate heat. The interaction between microwave fields and water molecules is also measured and technically examined. Because microwaves penetrate deep into the product, the microwave technique detects water both in the core and on the surface of an object or substance.
