Moisture analysis in a spray dryer

Measuring moisture content is a must in a spray drying process; after all, you don't want to dry too much; that costs energy and can lower the quality of the product. You also don't want to dry too little; too high a moisture percentage does not benefit the quality of the product.

Different methods of measuring moisture during spray drying

Inventech offers several advanced methods for measuring moisture in a spray drying process:

  • NIR
  • Microwave technology

The microwave method has the advantage over NIR that it can measure very accurately. This method measures the moisture both in the core and on the surface of the product. Would you prefer to measure other parameters in addition to moisture, such as fat (for example in the production of milk powder)? NIR offers the possibility to measure other parameters in addition to moisture in one quick measurement.
