The best (inline) viscosity method for heavy processes and demanding environments in the petrochemical industry

But how do you know what the right inline viscosity analyzer is for your process? After all, there are different analyzers on the market that use different measurement methods that can be used (inline) in petrochemical processes.

The ATSM standard is important in the petrochemical industry. The capillary technique is often mentioned in the same breath as the ATSM standard and this is still widely used within the petrochemical industry. However, the capillary technique requires a lot of time, because a sample is taken manually (lab measurement). The system also requires a lot of maintenance. If you can prove you are using a system that is equivalent to capillary technology, you can apply it and measure inline.

The Thermoset from Sofraser is the system that is found to be equivalent to capillary technology and you can perform the measurement inline. This analytical instrument uses a MIVI sensor based on vibration technology. This technique measures the resistance of a liquid to vibrations with a vibration amplitude. A resonator is immersed in a liquid and the degree of damping from the liquid is measured to determine the viscosity.

This measurement is not only many times faster, but also maintenance-free. No wonder that many large companies have already found their way to the MIVI-sensor.

Testimonial Thermoset Sofraser - Air Liquide

“We needed a solution for viscosity measurement with very good accuracy, usable for various process conditions, easy communication with our systems and a wide range for temperature and pressure. We have looked at five different systems. The Sofraser MIVI viscometer came out of the test as the best in its class in every category. ”

Measuring viscosity and density under high pressure in the petrochemical industry

The MIVI sensor is used in the Thermoset from Sofraser; a viscometer with resonance frequency that has been providing reliable and flexible viscosity measurements for many years in many different processes.

The updated MIVI sensor from Sofraser has even more to offer: in addition to the dynamic viscosity, the density is also measured and the kinematic viscosity can be determined. Because the sensor is ATEX certified, performs under high pressure and at high temperature, the measurement is extremely suitable for demanding processes and demanding environments. For example in combustion technology within the shipping industry, but also for industrial heat technology and large heating installations. The MIVI analyzer from Sofraser is available in various designs and additional options. And there are various mounting options such as wall mounting (in a reactor or vessel), in-line (bypass) and in a measuring chamber (for small and flexible pipes).
