Hyperspectral Imaging Applications in Art and Forensics
Hyperspectral imaging is a powerful tool for artwork analysis and conservation. By capturing complete spectral data for every pixel, this non-invasive method allows researchers to "see the invisible." Even in cases where artifacts have faded, been damaged, or undergone restoration, hyperspectral imaging can reveal unique spectral differences. A prime example is the Rijksmuseum’s Operation Night Watch, where Headwall’s SWIR 640 hyperspectral sensor was used to assess Rembrandt’s iconic painting, “The Night Watch,” allowing experts to develop a targeted restoration plan.
