Add more or less air to biogas with biological desulphurisation
Depending on the amount of H2S in the biogas, 2 to 6 vol. % air can be added to the biogas. When too little air is added to the biogas, "elemental sulfur" is formed as an intermediate product, which can be found as a solid in the digestate. However, if too much air is supplied, a second reaction takes place. In this process the elemental sulfur is converted into sulfuric acid. This sulfuric acid is converted back into hydrogen sulfide in (eg manure), so that no removal of this undesirable substance has taken place. In addition, biogas in air is very explosive. A measuring instrument that measures the hydrogen sulfide content in the biogas can indicate whether slightly more or less air should be added to the biogas.
